PC TIPS

Free Anti Virus, Anti Malware and Firewall Software For a Secure PC.
If something strange suddenly happens to your computer, run your anti virus application immediately to rule out viruses. Run Adaware &/or Spybot monthly. (If you're going to buy an application, my favorite is Norton Internet Security Suite 2009.)

  1. Adaware by Lavasoft
  2. Spybot Search & Destroy by PepiMK - SaferNetworking
  3. AVG Anti-Virus Free
  4. Zone Alarm Free Firewall
  5. Microsoft Security Essentials

If your Anti Virus application freezes or stops working (usually due to a virus infection), try any of these free ONLINE Virus and Malware Scanners:

  1. Trend Micro - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
  2. Bit Defender - http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
  3. F-Secure - http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml
  4. Kapersky - http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

    Other Fabulous and Free Programs:

  1. OPEN OFFICE (for Windows)

  2. UBUNTU - Free Linux Operating System - You can do almost anything with Ubuntu that you can do with Windows. Try it out on an old system!

  3. REVO UNINSTALLER
Does a more thorough job than Microsoft's Add/Remove Programs. http://www.revouninstaller.com/

  4. VLC MEDIA PLAYER
If you're having problems watching DVD movies due to CODEC problems, try this excellent open-source freebie:

If you have a high resolution monitor and the print is too small to read:

  1. In any browser, click the "Ctrl" and "+" keys to enlarge font size, "Ctrl" and "-" to reduce font size, and "Ctrl" and "0" to get back to default size. The same results can be achieved by going to "View" -> "Zoom" on the menu bar and choosing the appropriate magnification.
